Dhaka • Chittagong • Bandarbans • Mru Villages • Dhaka
Journey deep into Mru country – up until very recently closed to outsiders! This region is home to over half a million indigenous people belonging to 16 different ethnic groups. Perhaps the most intriguing are the Mru tribe scattered between the Sangu and Matamuri river valleys. Due to extreme isolation, much of their traditional lifestyle and pristine environment are still preserved. Enjoy a river cruise and easy jungle hikes into Mru villages, where the people still wear loincloths and the men wear their hair in topknots. Observe Jhoom (slash and burn) cultivation, waist-loom weaving and traditional music played with bagpipe-like bamboo and gourd flutes. To minimize impact, group size is limited to 6 members. W Q
In Dhaka, view the striking National Assembly building designed by the renowned architect Louis Kahn. Visit the Ethnological Museum and hike through forested hill tracts to meet the friendly Mru tribes in their remote villages that, until recently, were closed to outsiders! Learn about the foothill ecology and cruise to local villages to experience rural life.
